ITS OFFICIAL. Suspend to memory works on my Thinkpad X201i -- perfectly. perfectly....... prefectly. This is an exciting day. I just installed a snapshot today and just start apmd and thats it.
just run `zzz` and thats it. it works on console, works in X. wifi keeps on working. sweet. i love it. gonna sell my mac now. i've been using ubuntu on the x201i (just because everything worked) for a few weeks. now dual booting openbsd/ubuntu. gonna slowly migrate to full openbsd. this is fucking awesome. i've never had an openbsd machine i loved. always older machines with bad screens or bad batteries, etc. now i have this, i love it, openbsd runs great. the time has come.
also, side note. i had to deal with grub on ubuntu to dual boot openbsd. ubuntu is now using grub2. It is utter GNU bullshit software. I mean terrible, convoluted, crap. Makes me even happier going back to OpenBSD.
Let's all switch back. YEEESSSSSSSS. I know you want to lucas, asemi, dp...

btw. thats on a SP kernel. It didnt work on mp. but it doesnt matter as I run the thing at lowest processing speed anyway (933mhz).

here's what I hate about ubuntu: it has taught me how to use gnome. gnome is effectively the operating system. I have learned nothing about the actual operating system. sure I could install openbox and use gdm to log into it, but then I'd have gnome laying around taking up room.

I mean... it was the most busted ass dependency fucked linux of all time. You had to spin up fast on it or else you'd just end up uninstalling.
I remember compiling kernels like every other day in college juggling between working sound and working ethernet.
Kids today have it too easy. apt-get is a luxury. In my day we had ports.tar.gz if that.
I run cp/m and write my drivers and programs in asm when I need them.

There's an xkcd strip that handles this...

There really should be a method break out for xkcd.

suspend works on my x301 flawlessly! I'm running a snapshot of 4.8.

sysctl machdep.lidsuspend=1 suspends the laptop when you close it. crucial.

yeah I think I saw it in some mailing list posting. my only gripe is I don't know of any easy way to tell the computer to go to sleep after a certain amount of time when on battery power.

Untested in any way, pasted together from various code pieces lying around.
You get the idea I hope. You can also use a shell script if you prefer.
#!/usr/bin/env python
import subprocess
import time
timeonbat = 0
while True:
o = subprocess.Popen(['/usr/sbin/apm', '-alm'], stdout=subprocess.PIPE).communicate()[0]
(percent, lifetime, ac) = o.split()
if ac == '0':
timeonbat += 5
if timeonbat > 200:
print 'Good night.'
subprocess.Popen(['/usr/sbin/zzz'])
elif ac == '1':
timeonbat = 0
time.sleep(5)

good idea :). I'll try that soon.

the lidsuspend sysctl actually crashes my system for some reason. zzz works perfect but lidsuspend cat bring the system back up. I wonder what it's doing differently than just straight up 'zzz'.
i need to update my snapshot and see if that helps first actually. so much work on it recently.

yeah updating to a recent snapshot fixed the problem. love it

The only thing I'm missing these days is virtualbox on openbsd. I have a mac book air 13" that is my main machine and as always, trying to switch to openbsd full time. There are just enough annoyances to keep me from it.
virtualbox + vagrant is how i do all my development. I have multiple debian machines in virtualbox and it helps a ton with deployment. i'm going to try and compile virtualbox-ose on openbsd this weekend but not expecting much.
Skype, which I hate, but dont have a replacement, I can use on my phone now so don't really need that on my computer.
I can never get the fonts to look good on the BSD's either.
Everyone go donate to openbsd today! peace
> I can never get the fonts to look good on the BSD's either.
can anyone?
In Opera fonts looks pretty good on FreeBSD.
In Firefox fonts looks *UGLY*.
I use Skype on FreeBSD by the way, and it works quite well.

So I did an OpenBSD install again yesterday and installed mscorefonts and terminus like always (terminus for spectrwm). And this time all I did was `fc-cache -v` and everything worked so much better. Same install disk (5.1 amd). not sure what happend except i maybe did `sudo fc-cache -v` last time?
fonts look way better than my other installs. not as good as my mac or anything but as good as linux.
