Nikon!
Better ISO range, HD video capability, and the generally more awesome Nikon body layout.
Hmm I was favoring the T2i because it uses the same sensor as the one in the 7D.

Do you have a top price you're willing to pay? I could suggest several great entry-level dslrs!
Well, something not much more expensive than the T2i. I'd also have to consider availability in Brazil... But suggest away!
It actually seems to be more appropriate to compare the T2i to the D5000, but the D3100 is newer... I wonder if Nikon will release a D5100 soon.

Woh sorry, apparently I was getting my stats from a wack source. The canon does have movie mode and in fact has the better ISO range of the two. So, as long as you have played with both canon and nikon bodies and don't have much of a preference between them, the Canon probably isn't a bad choice. (I dislike canon's layout, myself)
The Canon has a better sensor, though it also has a higher crop factor, is slightly heavier, and is more expensive. So really I think it comes down to whether or not you feel like you want that better sensor and are willing to pay the extra money for it.
Happy decision-making!
Argh, I hate this. It takes me weeks until I can decide what to buy. I'm now thinking I'll save some more and and get the Nikon D7000.
It took me months to decide on my DSLR before finally going for D40. It *is* crazy.
For some reason I thought you had a D3000.
