considering getting the #308 simulator

wishful edit: this is *not* light therapy, this is a dawn simulator, oops
I have a Philips WakeUp Light.

Is this so you can try to wake up without an alarm or...?
I need to combined powers of a wake up light, an alarm, and something along the lines of a miracle in order to wake up on time ...
this is because i am the most evil person in the morning. and i don't even have to go to work until 9:30am.

I wonder about those lamps that are supposed to replenish your vitamin D...I wonder how harmful vs. helpful they are. So many people here in Seattle have them...
yeah, that's actual light therapy (as opposed to a wake-up aid).

Right, and the point of the thread before he realized the dawn thing was different.
I just wonder how worthwhile/effective real light therapy is...or if it's in large part the placebo effect.

right, that's why i said "yeah, that's actual light therapy."
> I just wonder how worthwhile/effective real light therapy is...or if it's in large part the placebo effect.
i wonder that, too. vitamin d has been shown to be negatively correlated with depression. causation, however, has not been determined (to my knowledge).
philips says that light therapy is "clinically proven," but we don't get details on the study (e.g., what was used for the control group).
i take D supplements. i'm seriously considering both appliances
my psychiatrist just recommended a full-spectrum light box. she told me to avoid the blue-spectrum therapy lights, as the full daylight spectrum (except for uv) is the best. she also said that the pathways of treatment go beyond vitamin d.
she lends them to patients to try out, but they're all borrowed at the moment. i'm buying one. now.

... and let the Earth be silent after ye.
Those sound so nice...
10,000 lux full-spectrum light boxes:
naturebright suntouch plus $93
uplift technologies dl930 $143
verilux happylite deluxe $143
philips energylight $290
i'm going with the philips model because they have a 45-day warranty and because i think price is (at least) minimally correlated with quality. light quality goes beyond amount (lux) and temperature (kelvin). spectral differences are important (like the color rendering index), along with more than i know.
anyway, i think either the verilux or the philips would have been fine.
You gotta love that clearcut compare table. I wish more manufacturers would do that.
Anyway, I have a philips wakeup light ... Works OK, but not super.
That top link ("naturebright suntouch plus ") has some serious bullshit on it and all of it sounds dangerously close to snake oil.
"Negative ions are odorless, tasteless, electron-sized particles found in refreshing environments like on beaches and around waterfalls."
omg, what? haha. high school phyisics fail.

aw, they're found around waterfalls! :-j
[preface: not light therapy, just a wake up light]
ordered myself one of these -

cheap but looks like it works and is dependable. results to come!
every time a thread is bumped with an étrangère post near the bottom, i think "whoa, she's back!"
but it's just a bump
i got it in the mail. going to try it out tonight
it worked okay. the light didn't wake me up directly, but i was much more alert than normal when my alarms went off.
my understanding is that the efficacy can't be determined until a few more weeks of use. i might upgrade the bulb in my bedside lamp as well (ge filter for more bluish light).
