I've read through several books on etiquette from the past. I've often wondered how to reconcile the best etiquette from the past in the context of being a modern world citizen.
There's also the problem of gender and roles, which tend to be explicit and the expectations are clearly different these days. What will we do about these?
Does anyone have good resources (books or articles) on modern discussions of etiquette? Many of these things are encouraged by good breeding to start out with, and I think mine was decent, but I'd like to attempt to better myself. I hope that this effort is without being as pompous and arrogant in assumptions as is usually the case in these etiquette texts.
I'll be using this thread as a discussion and a resource for links regarding etiquette. I think topics to begin with would be: dining, speech, behavior, dress. Hopefully we can talk about expectations for each from a global perspective, relevant cases or incidents, and best practices.
