i have this laptop that someone dropped. the lcd is broken so i got three replacement lcd's one at a time from dell and installed them. what could be the problem? i'm thinking it's the motherboard connector's pins supplying power to the backlight. unfortunately i can't find the specs on this.

anyone have ideas on how to resolve powering lcd backlights? each time the lcd has been sent with a new ribbon as well.

might have to just buy a new one. i hate how these problems are more costly to repair than to fix.

e-waste sucks.

Test the inverter. This is fairly easy:

If there is no result, it *could* still be a problem in the cable. You can try moving the cable around a bit and see if that helps.
I don't think that's very likely though, since you do still have a working image (just no backlight) and both the data and inverter typically use the same cable.

My bet is that the LCD screen itself is broken though if it's been dropped ... They're not *too* expensive on eBay ... Just triple check you're getting one that fits (Made that mistake on more than one occasion).

thanks for the link.

yes the lcd screen itself was definitely broken. i just don't see how three replacement lcd's also work fine except for their backlight. each time the ribbon was replaced as well.

from your link it looks like the solution is to replace the inverter.

Right, didn't see you already tried a different LCD screen.

I would test it first to be sure ;)
