I'll just ^c ^v what I told my friend who posted the article on Fb:
Good article, but really ... really ... if no one was allowed to joke about something that made the comedian or audience uncomfortable there would be no more comedy. Rape wasn't the joke--it was part of the joke--but they shouldn't have to apologize for making it.

If you can't laugh at all the horrible things in the world... you are dead inside.

Rape jokes are just as crude and stupid as any other. They don't deserve this kind of uproar. Does the "feminist" think there don't exist people in the "real world" who are affected by the killing of others? He/she thinks those jokes are funny, so what gives?
Shaker Milli A is a fucking idiot. And I hope he/she googles his/her name and finds this post.
i don't think they're that idiotic, seems to just have more concern for rape victims than murder victims.
woops i didn't mean to post prematurely.
it looks like Shaker is a she.
sure she is hypocritical in that sense but when you value feminism so dearly, clearly it's possible that the sticker holding feminist will stick to rape victim apologetics above murder victim apologetics.
above all this, it's really just a blog post about low brow comedy. *sigh*
darn i keep going in and out of sleep... oh no: i had a dream i was reading about opinions(1) of opinions(0) about nerds making obtuse jokes about going on virtual quests with vague references to reality as a model for underscoring the capability of people to be apathetic.

i'd like to see rape jokes leave our culture.
the pa strip wasn't bad, but i do think that it is a tiny step toward the desensitization regarding rape.
as far as the daily show parody, that was great. it parodied in such a way to illustrate that all rape is serious and should be treated equally seriously.
> Does the "feminist" think there don't exist people in the "real world" who are affected by the killing of others? He/she thinks those jokes are funny, so what gives?
to me, the issue is that very few people doubt the seriousness of murder or the moral judgment.
however, as society becomes more desensitized toward rape, people become more accepting of date rape and other circumstances. two hosts on a radio station for which i worked had said that they didn't think that a particular montanan girl didn't deserve protection in a particular rape case because she was in a bad part of town and she was scantily-clad at the time.
i can make morbid jokes, and it's probably not going to lead people to think that murder is ok nor will it lead juries to find murderers not guilty because of some bogus circumstance. i don't think morbid jokes will desensitize people toward murder. moreover, morbidity is simply part of the human condition, and most of these jokes are regarding death, not brutal killing.

I don't think rape jokes make everyone think it's ok.
me neither.
i guess my post wasn't clear.

Some folks have made the argument that humor is a purely human invention. Something of a sign of higher level intelligence. Maybe that's bullshit. Maybe there are some very funny wolverines out there right now amusing the shit out of other animals.
Hard to say.
But the greeks made a good point in defining human drama as either being a comedy or a tragedy. The simple fact is, life is harsh. Unbelievably un-fucking-deniably fucking horrible. And none of us will survive it. If you think rape is harsh, stop for a moment to consider the mortality of the people you love, and the ones who you have lost.
Now after dragging you face to face with the human condition and the fundamental truth of our mortality, let's consider if we will what laughter is. It is a rebuke of everything horrible that we face. We laugh, because hell, for all the horrible shit there is in life, we still manage to see the good.
If you can laugh at rape, or death, or any other horrible fact of human existence. Then good on you I say. Because if you can't laugh, you aren't living well at all. And you should probably be looking into getting some help.
That's my thought on the subject. And it's not explicit to rape in any way. I've laughed at all manner of macabre humor. Some jokes are downright hilarious. And at the end of the day, for all the horrible that there is in the world. We still manage to laugh at it. I find that defiance to be truly a testament to the better side of our species. I'd gladly wish it on all of our planets life forms.
You know people gave me a lot of shit for building that hand grenade mp3 player a couple years ago. It suffices to say, I disagree with those people. I considered the more sane complaints. And I've discounted them. Laughing at the bad in the world is downright heroic.
maybe :p

I'll second that!
The comic is quite funny actually. Been playing a bit of WoW as of late ...
