before i got too mad at the printer, i thought that i better make sure it isn't the application. it was.

wow, adobe reader has problems. this demonstration used consistent printer settings across all programs tested. the digital original is the first page.

Adobe reader 9 is "old", perhaps you can try version 10.

i hate the interface of adobe reader 10 and i refuse to use it.

i tried version 8, which does the same thing. they both were doing this with my latex-generated pdfs, too, which i find very strange. i've never had such problems before using adobe reader 8 or 9 with a latex pdf. maybe it's the combination of the appliation (adobe reader) and my printer drivers. i'll set up a different printer and try the same things tonight.

i was using these drivers:
HP Officejet Basic Driver - IT Professional Use Only, 2007-12-17, Version 9.0.0, 15.28M

i just installed these instead:
HP Officejet Basic Driver, 2007-12-17, Version:9.0.0, 123.44M

now it prints properly in adobe acrobat. (what the fuck?)
