the modem / router that my ISP gives me is terrible, so i picked up a linksys wrt54g v5 for cheap. i disabled the gateway functions on my ISP router so it's just a modem.

i'm having strange issues where certain sites won't load. for example, indietorrents takes a very very long time to load (and works fine on other internet connections).

tracert is fine. when i ping the site, it times out every 10-15 seconds or so. TTF does not time out in this way.

i haven't had time to test the connection by going directly through the modem yet. has anyone heard of something like this?

do you have a known working router?

you can use/have my treasured wrt54gl (as i'm going the embedded openbsd route).

i used an http tunnel and indietorrents was fine - seems like an isp / modem issue to me now.

that doesn't make sense though - indietorrents worked fine when i used the modem w/ gateway enabled.

anyone have any ideas?

try the router, but use don't use the dns proxy. set some static dns server addresses on your computer. see if that fixes it.

your router's dns proxy could be flaky
