using a crappy dell mouse at work next to my topre realforce 103. i have a old microsoft wheel mouse optical 1.1a that i will probably bring in. i am looking at trackballs as an alternative to help reduce rsi. specifically, i'm looking at the cst l-trac / l-tracx.
my coworker uses one of
these he thinks it's pretty awesome. so instead of cupping your hand downward this lets you hold it a bit more naturally.

I love these things. I just need to fork out the cash for one of my own.
i wonder if you'd like one of
these guys. it seems like a solid solution. never tried it but i'd imagine that as it's so close to the keyboard -- like a trackpoint, it might be pretty nice to use. this way you don't have to mod the shit out of your topre. i'd suggest watching some videos on use to get an idea about how it works :P
the trackball concept that i am considering is trackball on left side of keyboard, normal mouse on the right side
I have a Logitech MX400, rather happy with it to be honest.
Logitech makes shitty keyboards, but their mice are OK ...
now rocking a microsoft wheel mouse optical 1.1a, version 2001. microsoft can't make keyboards for shit, but this is a classic mouse.
(also, colour scheme matches my realforce)
haha nice
personal favorite of mine

no frills but good sensitivity built in, standard 3 button usb optical mouse, feels right by comparison to the store branded mouse i've got on my desktop.
i rock one of those too.
is the third button the roller-click?
I like the sidebuttons the MX400 offers. I use them a lot in we browsing.

I also like the shape a bit better.
i also like a thumb-button for backing up on pages.
i like 3 buttons. i have big fingers that mash on all the fiddly little side buttons.
ordered a CST l-tracx trackball.

whoa...
it's awesome. i now have over $400 in peripherals on my desk though.
What's so good about this particular trackball?
super high cpi / dpi, great form factor, quick and smooth operation (both the track ball and the scroll wheel).
I'd like to try a trackball ... But I'm not sure if I'm going to like it ... The Thumb-operated ones also appeal more to me ...
I considered this one:

Logitech makes crappy keyboards, but their mice are pretty good ...
it will take a lot of getting used to, for sure. right now i'm just using it for browsing (not doing work) because i'm just not fast enough with it.

I prefer the finger operated track balls.
So I got the M570 previously mentioned.
Works pretty well after tuning the mouse speed/acceleration.
