the way i did it was click on "Find and Invite" and i plugged the invitee names in. but i also read in this awful link the invites were shut down.

Yeah, their wording in several areas is absolute garbage.
I was excited to get on here but I'm not convinced the video "hangout" feature alone will be able to sufficiently differentiate it from Facebook. And I don't see any other major ones that will tip the scales...we'll see! Go google+ go!
