i'm looking for a cheap, enterprise-level access point.
any recommendations?
i'm looking at the
ubiquity unifi right now.
(why do i keep improving my home network?!)
or should i use more generic hardware, use open-source firmware, and keep it in my wiring cabinet?
i kinda like wall- or ceiling-mount with poe and an attractive design.

Well, why are you upgrading all this?

I am looking for something similar. I want an AP in each room and have 100% signal with PoE devices.

I've been playing with the
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/buffalo/wzr-hp-ag300h
DD-WRT by default which has built in wireless bridging.
So kinda nice there.. But VERY hackable.
Dual transceiver too. Nice kit. 32 megs of flash memory. 128 megs of ram. Beast of a machine.
I love mine. Even swapped the status leds for some UV and pinks I had. ( 603 though so a bit tough to deal with )

I will reiterate phi_'s question. and tell you to just get a wrt54gl, install dd-wrt, and make it a dumb ap.
> Well, why are you upgrading all this?
i am currently running a D-Link DAP-1522 with stock FW v1.40. it drops clients occasionally when burdened with high-throughput. it gives me 6.24 MBps.
i tried a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato v1.28. no dropped connections, but less throughput than i want. it gives me 2.35 MBps.
i'd like to have a reliable, high-throughput wireless connection to my file server at home. neither of these are sufficient for my uses.

I am in this same boat now. kind of sick of ~2.5 mbps from my file server over wifi.

and we use some of those ubiquiti unifis at work. I haven't been too deep in the management interface myself but my boss seems to like them. they're nice-looking too.

time to retire the WRT54GL. I bought a Unifi AP! only 70 bucks.
how's it performing? i'm still looking to upgrade my AP at some point.

I canceled the order when I realized to get gigabit you have to order the pro version that's like $225 :(.
