i'm going brand by brand, giving an exhaustive list of each brand's current offerings that have hard cases and no zippers. that is, i'm listing each manufacturer's more secure luggage.

samsonite

Samsonite FLite GT 30"
Black, Bright Orange, or Red
61.5" total linear (maximum size for standard checked baggage)
Two wheels (for basic maneuvers)
11.2 lbs.
29.5" x 20.0" x 12.0"
10 year warranty
$145 from samsonite after coupon SNOWSALE ($25 off, ends 12/23)
$161 from amazon

summary: This is a no-frills lightweight hard case that will give you maximum space for the typical checked baggage fee. Rugged, virtually water-tight, and still pretty inexpensive. The only downside is that it's not a "spinner."

Samsonite FLite GT 31"
Black, Bright Orange, or Red
64" total linear (over-sized for standard checked baggage)
Spinner (four wheels for most maneuvers)
12.0 lbs.
31.0" x 21.0" x 12.0"
10 year warranty
$189 from samsonite
$189 from amazon

summary: Nearly identical to the 30" model, this one is indeed a spinner, but it costs a bit more, weighs a bit more, and you have you pay an extra substantial fee to check it, as it's over-sized! That's a deal breaker, in my opinion.

Samsonite Cruisair Bold 21"
Black, Burgundy, Silver
46.0" total linear (maximum size for most carry-on baggage)
Spinner (four wheels for most maneuvers)
10.4 lbs.
21.0" x 15.0" x 10.0"
10 year warranty
$207 from samsonite

Samsonite Cruisair Bold 29"
Black, Burgundy, Silver
61.5" total linear (maximum size for standard checked baggage)
Spinner (four wheels for most maneuvers)
14.3 lbs.
29.0" x 20.5" x 12.0"
10 year warranty
$252 from samsonite

more later!

i've decided that i hate product research.

i've also realized that samsonite sells considerably better products to the rest of the world. sigh

it's tedious and can be paralyzing (as in "analysis paralysis").

the law is no protection
I learned that term from a job description mere days ago. the cutesy rhyming bothers me.
