22-18 vertical with velcro-strap, ask for extra neoprene strips (free) for slim line battery in case later purchased.
correction, 22-19 vertical is the correct size for the x60s with the 8-cell.
So you guys got your thinkpads ?
i got it today! i'm loving it like mad! i'm sending dp his here in a bit... he should have it on saturday.
larz!
I have that sleevecase from waterfield designs, the brenthaven 3180 shoulder bag, and a bluetooth logitech mouse ready to be used. They sent me the 22-18 size so I want to see if they got it right, they didn't add the extra neoprene strips either. Maybe they jacked up my order.

Expect Tuesday August 1st 2006. :D
And restart your journal. Its been stagnant for sometime now.
TRUTH!
dp, does your bluetooth work?
mine doesn't. i don't think my x60s actually has the card.
I was having so much fucking trouble with it. I bought that mouse and I couldn't figure it out all night. Then I hit fn+f5 and turned the radio on.
ah... fn+f5! now my mouse is rolling tight!
glad to see these, now i just need a review of the sleeve!
as for the pics--i noticed that you removed your windows xp sticker. also, i was kinda disappointed with your focus: does your camera have a macro mode/lens?
No macro, it's a hundred dollars or something and yeah I'm disappointed with the focus as well. Even if it did have a decent macro, the digital viewfinder makes it nearly impossible to determine focus. It's basically useless unless there's adequate lighting or doing hyperfocal focusing. This is why I'm considering a Nikon D50... in 5 years.

ive been thinking of selling my T60 and getting a x4[12] machine instead. I really like the T60 and I love the 1440x1050 resolution but i dont like the hardware support with the BSD's. the x40's are supported really well by the BSDs. i use Ubuntu on here and its just got enough quirks that it pisses me off.
plus i just think i'd like how samll the x40 is. i dont need that fast of a machine these days anyway. you still loving your x60s's? lucas and dp?
yeah, but i haven't really tried any bsds extensively on it. i probably will at some point soon.

when you get it though, reinstall. i just reinstalled and it's soo much less cluttered with bundlewarez.

definitely. thats the first thing i did on my t60. actually i did the 6cd restoration deal. then did a clean install. also that 'software installer' that lenovo put out is bad ass. just download what you want from them all up to date via their little app. not too shabby.
Im thinking about going back to a mac. i really did get more actually work done since everything always worked. never fiddling with shit. i manage quite a few unix boxes now (sneaking them in at work where appropriate) so i dont really have to have unix on my desktop anymore to get my fix. plus i dont like having to use ubuntu on this thing. just unpredictable.

I've always been really lucky with macs - never one problem (ibook2, dual867 G4, PowerBook, iMac). On the other had I had a buddy return 2 PowerMac G5s and a 24in iMac in his time.
One thing I notice about the mac (and the reason i end up selling them) is that im a computer nerd and I like messing with them. On my macs everything always works so well I just use the computer instead of playing with it. But in the end I always get another. I just want one now because me and my roomate have quite a few people that want websites, hosting, ecommerce that we could make a part time biz out of it and grow from there. With a mac I can actually be productive on it to work towards this goal. Who knows, in 2 months I'll probably have another regular x86 box.
:)

i really hate mine sometimes when i keep using it a lot in one direction.. i'll let go of it and it will keep moving in that same direction and it'll be really hard to move back in the opposite direction

haha, I feel the same way. I've had my MacBook for about seven months now though and I'm still loving it. I do miss Openbox a lot and I would like to try out the latest XFCE, but I might give BSD a shot on the MacBook sometime soon.

X60s SDHC limits:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=37478
I found a few SD cards that are large (4gigs), but not SDHC.
Awaiting an answer about whether one can use SDHC cards in Windows XP. Windows Vista works with SDHC on the X60s, though not at SDHC speeds.
Maybe an alternative is just to use a USB cable to my camera. The goal here is to not have an external SDHC USB adapter.
what about a pc card adapter?
good idea i'll check

We mooched a hacking room that we were graciously allowed to use by the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta, and we all brought various "problem children" machines — everything from the Vaio UX, IBM X60's, the "Ferrari" Acer laptop (shudder) and the infamous "crash-o-tron" Intel box I bought ckuethe at one point for work.

One of the good things is that some laptops are already being fixed by using the AML interpreter we have. For example, gwk's x60 is much more stable having all the ACPI devices enabled. The wpi(4) works better, halt(8) works correctly with the -p flag, and I'm sure there were other things that worked better with it as well.
yay, maybe openbsd will work better with my x60s now. wpi has been bugging me with its bugs.
thinkpad x60, win xp.
i want to use the little buttons around the arrow keys to switch tabs.. i know this is possible in *nix, not sure how to do it in windoze.
any tips/guides? perhaps surfkeys, if it lets you remap.
there are some keyboard remapping programs you could use
yea, any ideas?

i don't want to take over your penelope thread lr so i'm posting here.
since i'm still firmly on the thinkpad x-series train i want to do a little hack with a thermal pad to cover the right wrist/palm area. the heat from the wifi (or something, not really sure what it is) makes my palm so sweaty.
yeah, the wifi card is under the right palm.
new plan:
buy battery
buy new hard drive - probably 250 or 320gb, as i won't have access to my workstation for the rest of the summer. my hard drive is 80gb, after all!
finally bought a new battery. £130 = $260
a day and a half of work... worth it though
whoa.. expensive
cheaper than what i had to pay
ultranav fucks up sometimes after i hibernate. (it loses its settings--i have it set to disable the touchpad and use the middle button like a normal middle button.)
sometimes something resets my sound profile. i disabled the "windows start," "windows exit," "logon," and "logoff" sounds. i even saved this as a theme or whatever. something keeps turning these sounds back on. I DO NOT NEED TO HEAR WINDOWS START. jesus christ
i like it when the power manager pops up the "power stretch" bubble. and i DO NOT WANT TO POWER STRETCH, so i click the "X" to close it. but somehow the "X" opens the power stretch window! it's like they didn't code the close button correctly! such fucking bullshit.
and because i'm running on battery, my laptop is making terrible noises.
power stretch?
yeah, it's a newer feature of the power manager.
i wonder if i should update bios/thinkpad software when i get the new batt next week

My sister just gave me her old T41! She lost the AC adapter, though, so I'll have to hunt one down.
But, yay, new computer! (hopefully with an okay display.)
Thinkpad T61 coming my way!
what do you guys think about the x200? it looks great to me. battery life is close to 10 hours, up from 8 hours with the x60s. the lcd resolution is 1280x800, a good improvement over 1024x768. the lcd is brighter at 200 nits. unfortunately it still lacks a dvi-out.
the 1024x768 display is the reason i left the x-series last year. maybe i'll return to the x-series sometime in the next 12-18 months.
720p video = good. I'd go for it.

i wonder who i can off-load this t61 onto---
i am ten months into the one-year warranty for my t61.
i just called and told a tech that my battery life is down to ~2 minutes. he's shipping me a new battery.
<3 ibm support
> i am ten months into the one-year warranty for my t61.
One year? Don't T61's have 3 year warrenty?
In addition, my experience with IBM/Lenovo tech support is *extremely* bad ... Guess it's better in the U.S., maybe I should contact U.S. support next time I have a problem ...
My high capacity battery wouldn't charge, so I called IBM/Lenovo about it. Then I got a low capacity battery from them. :\

maybe only certain cust. service reps are awesome?

i was offered many options for warranty contracts. i chose the one-year depot contract.
> maybe only certain cust. service reps are awesome?
i've always had very good experiences with ibm support. it's one of the reasons i'm a huge lenovo thinkpad advocate. maybe my experience is atypical, or maybe their international support differs.

the last time i got ibm service was a few years ago. it was all overnight airborne express (now dhl) service. they overnighted me a container for my laptop with a shipping label on it for return overnight delivery. the entire turnaround was one week.

<3 good service.
I installed NetBSD 5.0 a few days ago. Suspend and resume works right out of the box on my x60s. Even the sleep button works! :D
hmm...
I bought an UltraBay hard disk adapter, I can now connect two hard drives to my T61!
I would also like an UltraBay battery, but they are pretty expensive (150 euro)...
enticing bluet!
The wireless is more stable than with OpenBSD 4.4, and I get to use Quod Libet. I'm so happy!

i used netbsd exclusively for years, but then moved to openbsd for unix.
oh how i loved netbsd. havent installed it in since like 3.0.2 or something.
openbsd docs are definitely my favorite.
It's nice to have the latest pf, OpenSSH and friends, too.
Looks interesting at first sight, I wonder if it comes with a matte screen and cover (Instead of the shiny slick covers so many netbooks sport).
The quality of the keyboard is another big question ... If you look closely at the bottom-left corner you see it's a "macbook-style" keyboard, and not a "classic thinkpad" keyboard. The layout is also different...
But at least it has a trackpoint, but why the touchpad :-(
At first glance it seems like a nice netbook compared to the competition ... But not a real "thinkpad netbook" ...
yeah. i think the tp x-series is still worth the extra money.
http://netbooked.net/netbook-reviews/review/l … 0e-review/
X100e review.
Battery life is crap. And I'm also unsure about the keyboard.
I would like a netbook. But I have yet to lay my hands on one I really like.
Or maybe a X200 ... My T61 is less then a year old ...
I just want something portable to do work with at $any_location.
At work we now have a sony netbook, it's very thin & light but I really like it (Even though it's flimsy, the entire body flexes more than a bit!). It really is a notebook in the sense that it's something you put in your bag and take anywhere (Which is not the case with a 15" or 14")!
get an x200s! although i'm not impressed my your lenovo experience in europe. :(
Well, the machines themselves are the same of course ... And I can do pretty much anything myself, I've also gained some experience in lying to technical service people in order to get things done ;-)
Personally, I prefer a good laptop and crappy service rather then a crappy laptop and good service.
But I do get jealous reading about your Lenovo support experiences :-(
But yeah, I looked at getting a X200s ... But that's pretty expensive, especially considering I payed quite a bit for my T61 less than a year ago ...
How is your X200 battery life experience btw?
i get around ten hours with the lcd screen turned up fairly bright and wifi blastin'.
i have certainly gotten twelve hours with the lcd turned down low.
Wow. That's pretty awesome.
You have a 6 or 9 cell batterY?
the nine cell.
