i changed the registration page to throw a 503 status and give an explanation.
revision.php
(1) i don't want to publicly publish IP addresses any longer. thanks to carpetsmoker's comments on this. i don't want to aid dataminers (e.g., nsa, web-archiving or -mining websites).
(2) i want users to be able to control the privacy of anything they've posted.
until these issues are properly addressed, status 503.

registration has been closed for years, btw. but point well-taken.
