tell me you watched that video. i don't think live tv gets much funnier.
I dunno what to even say to that, but it's not like Kanye is even down in the middle of the real trouble in New Orleans. I think it was a very inappropraite comment and it did no good except fuel hate and more racism in this country.

I feel bad for the victims but when you have a coon represent the black people, that just makes HIS people look like shit. SLAVERY has been abolished brother!! Don't hate everyone because your ancestors suffered. Talk is cheap. Go out and walk instead of talk.
coon?
"HIS people".
that's sad.

1. did you actually just say coon? fuck you.
2. just because slavery is abolished, do you think that means there aren't repercussions of it today? why do you think a disproportionate amount of African-Americans are poor? why do you think most members of the upper class are European-Americans? the abolition of something doesn't magically cure all the social ills that were and are a result of it.
3. as for Kanye, while I think a more accurate thing to say would be that George Bush doesn't care about poor people, I am glad someone had the courage when they were angry enough to speak their mind like that on national TV.
As for your 3rd point, I think speaking up and having courage is a good thing. But being ignorant and not thinking about the repercussions before considering the rest of the population (like you said poor people i.e white or black).
I don't believe that statement was correct in the least, and for that I say fuck Kanye West.

i was waiting for someone to cut me down to size.
damn brian, you're 20 days late.
point 1 - i agree
point 2 - mostly i agree
point 3 - what was accomplished by his speech? all i got out of it was a good laugh, the same can be said for everyone i work with. shock statements rarely do anything reguardless of if they're true or not. in addition the most that will happen as a result of kanye's statement will be a backlash against him. as for the blame down there, bush can only be blamed for appointing michael brown. beyond that it's all about brown fucking it up.
you can blame bush for not stepping in sooner. i guess you could just let him pass the buck, like every other republician.
you could blame congress for not stepping in sooner, you could blame the red cross for not stepping in futher. point is, it was michael brown's job to get the state ready and he didn't perform. the fact that we didn't go down there ourselves is just passing the buck because "it's not our job".
congress takes too much time. i strongly believe in executive orders for such circumstances.
the red cross has no legal obligation to serve people.
frankly, bush hired someone to do this job. he did not do it well. bush should have immediately taken control of the situation, being the president.
i'll agree with that.

comes outta nowhere
i think that speech accomplished nothing. his rant was so devoid of a logical argument that i don't really know what to make of it. the problem is, why was there so much development on land 20 feet under sea level, especially when the corps of engineers wasn't willing to maintain the infrastructure? also, i don't think bush had some conspiracy not to help black people; i think he generally has his head up his ass and can't do anything right. he should have done whatever was necessary to provide basic necessities, and not pledged so much tax money to rebuild in a fucking hole.
on the second point, i think what is hurting the african-american community is a sense of entitlement. it has moved from the MLK vision of equality to demanding special treatment and attention. my ancestors were not well off when they came here; why else would they travel 10,000 miles to start a ranch in the middle of nowhere? They sure as hell were not worrying about reparations for past wrongs or preferential treatment. And what about asians? many of the first asians to come here were basically slaves for the railroads and faced tremendous discrimination, and they are wealthier than any other ethnic group in america.
