hey I just noticed yesterday that the scroll wheel works in google maps, pretty slick :)
i practically live on www.google.com/ig

I haven't fooled around with much else, but I might use the word processor out of necessity.
hey, at
http://maps.google.com if you type in a business like "mackenzie pizza, billings, mt" and punch the call button, you can connect a call from them to your (or another person's) phone for free.
it works with some voip madness and it might be integrated into talk or jabber.
http://www.google.com/patents damn you can search for patents!
phi_
... and let the Earth be silent after ye.
I'm digging Google Documents more and more. I do most of my typing from work up there now so I don't have to worry about a flash drive or anything. Plus I can publish it without needing a website. <3

how did you manage to stumble upon that?
i clicked on the google patents link above and it was randomly on there.

cool. I use the google sms thing all the time for sports scores.
I know I'm a fanboy about all this stuff but google announced that they went live with iGoogle, so google personalization is now publicized.

still waiting for my invite. :(
I don't know, I've been trying to capture a slick phone number. Any ideas?

done.
so how is it?
Aesthetic:
It's much like gmail. It's integrated with your contacts. Conversations are grouped, but not collapsed. SMS messages from the same recipient get put in the same message container.
Conference calls:
There's conference calling for up to four people. It requires call waiting on your phone, and google will give you an option to add them to the call. I'm not sure how different this is from most other mobile phone plans and conference calling does anyone get charged for mobile conference calls?
Pricing:
They started me off with a $0.10 international call credit. US calls are free, connecting your cell to any number is free with a click, and SMS messaging is free and quick.
Texting/SMS:
Text messages are grouped in a conversation with the contact, the conversation timeline is a bit difficult to destinguish when you send multiple texts to a person and they reply to multiple texts, it's just grouped as a single block with the receive times -- Looks much like gchat chat logs.
Recording calls:
You can do it (by pressing the four key at any time) but Google plays a prerecorded warning that the callers are being recorded. It then saves the recorded audio to a recorded folder, one of several folders:
Inbox
Starred
History
Spam
Trash
----
Contacts
----
Voicemail
SMS
Recorded
Placed
Received
Missed
Voice to Text:
Needs some help on voice recognition but it's pretty great overall. When there's wide deployment I think the accuracy will increase quite a bit. There's currently no way to suggest improved audio interpretation. I thought they would have a significant amount of this type of data by their GOOG411 speech recognition stuff.

maybe buzz will cause the Great Rift on ttf.
buzz is so much better than wave. it's not that it's that much different than other products. but google is doing it and so far it seems pretty great.
problems i noticed:
1) two images post when i share flickr photos on reader; one opens a quick js preview the other opens in a new window. the duplication looks dumb and should be fixed. i like the preview feature though and hope it gets implemented in reader!
2) gmail implementation seems kind of annoying, i think i'd like it more on reader.
i haven't had much time to play with it though.
HEY is anyone using the new youtube early release candidate yet? it looks a lot cleaner!
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
buzz is a totally different thing than wave right now. unless they release some type of open buzz protocol or buzz server that will interoperate with google's buzz servers, everything I liked about the idea of wave doesn't exist in buzz. right now it just seems like a prettier interface to your google reader friends with the option of feeding your twitter/whatever else updates into it.
Chiken
Don't Let Your Walls Down
isn't that the version of youtube that uses html5?
if so i am, keeps me from watching stuff on my desktop which is my main distraction.
right it's a different thing. but it's been implemented a lot better and quite seamlessly, it's a ton more useful than wave. utility wise i'd rather collaborate on documents or by email than use wave.
youtube:
i'm not sure, i heard something else about the html5 version. it probably is.
anyway here's the help page i'm getting, if you dig there are screenshots:

on documents by email you mean? neither documents nor email by themselves have collaboration.
and honestly I don't even really care about the collaboration aspect of wave. it's the idea of an email-like protocol that is far more powerful.
buzz just seems like a fancier google reader.
no i don't mean documents by email. documents definitely has direct collaboration.
what's so much more powerful about wave than email?
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
are we talking about google documents?
wave has:
- better threading
- real-time editing
- "attachment" integration, if you want to call it that
- instant messaging possibilities
- and my favorite, public waves

it exists in the options now
uh, i don't know who else you're following but my following list makes my posts feel feeble. it's like sticking your foot in a river.
i'm so fucking sick of getting invited to follow people. time to code a simple web-based rss reader and quit using google reader.
i think i'll make my own web-based rss reader and my own web-based mail client. then i can ditch google mail and google reader.
i'm sick of the bloat.
i'd like to replace google calendar and google voice, but those would be more difficult to implement.
i am convinced web-based rss can be done better. i've looked around a few times and i haven't found anything.
(enter lucas)
I've ditched Gmail for mutt. I still use reader, and hate it.
Want to collaborate on the rss reader, lucas?
i'm down for anything better, but google reader is the best reader i've seen online.
what sucks more is poorly designed feeds.
asemisldkfj

I would use this rss reader, guys. I have thought about doing one myself.
k, i'll get to work on it. luckily there are lots of bsd-licenced parsers and such, so it should be super easy.
i'm making a suite of software, and this will probably just be one small application in the suite.
you are all welcome to test the suite as it gets developed. it will be bsd-licenced as well, so if you think i start bloating, you can fork. :)

cool. I have been wanting to do the rss reader thing for a while, because google reader is the last (beside calendar, which I don't even really use) google product that I use a lot.
webmail would also be really convenient, but since I have a smartphone it has been less at the front of my mind.
maybe the rss stuff and lr life management stuff should be forked?

I hate this instant search bullshit. it's neat but it has only annoyed me and never been helpful. and I don't really see how it could be helpful other than saving me from typing like one word if something relevant pops up before I finish typing what I intended to type, and I notice that something relevant showed up.
I think instant search makes sense for collections of stuff like personal files where you're looking for something in particular, but when I'm searching the web I'm not really aware what's out there yet. I don't type hotmail into the google search bar or something, or use google to find a wikipedia page.
