that place is awesome, dp. i especially like the labels they put on the outgoing mail.

I ordered some shirts from australia last week.

i dont think i could ever justify dropping that much on a shirt no matter what the label read.
it's a two ply (read: thick) dress shirt, french cuffs, etc. and it's branded, but you obviously can't see that from the outside.
i'll also note that that's probably the average price for shirts of that quality here, and that in the US, you'd see at least a 20% discount on that, if not more. canada is pretty hurt sometimes.

I'm pretty sure we'll need to see it on in order to accurately assess the purchase.. :)
i found a pretty cool site - biased cut. it basically brings fully-tailored shirts within the financial realm of a lot of people.
they have a rotating number of pre-selected designs. you upload your measurements, choose the design, then specify a few features (type of collar, type of cuff, slim/normal cut, monogram), then they get the shirts made in hong kong. there are a few other sites that do this but with shirts made in the usa, but they cost about four times as much). all in it's $85 a shirt + $5 shipping!
here's their blog

Regrettably, at this time, we only ship to the continental US. However, we might be able to fulfill your international shipping request, depending on the country and its customs regulations. Please don’t hesitate to send us an inquiry.

ooh I need to check out that site.
i e-mailed them and they'll ship to canada for an extra few dollars. no word on any country in europe though.
I would maybe order one of those shirts, but I can't say I care much for the colors they're currently offering ... Maybe I'll check in later and see if they have some designs I like better ...

New shirts and 30USD off on your first.
I think I will order 1 or 2 if they ship to NL.
Alas, no shipping to the Netherlands :(
Hey Martin -
Unfortunately, we're still unable to ship to the EU. Although I wouldn't go
so far as to call you unlucky to be in the Netherlands - a pretty fantastic
place in our brief visits!
Thanks for getting in touch though and taking a look at the site. We hope we
can begin shipping to more locations soon.
Cheers,

i'm going to order a shirt tonight or tomorrow, after i double-check my body measurements.
i'm deciding between these two configurations:
pink oxford, button collar, button cuff, slim fit, monogram "larz"
perfect white, traditional collar, french cuff, slim fit, monogram "jlr"
:)
also, as carpetsmoker mentioned, you get $30 off of your first shirt, and the offer ends on sunday.
pink oxford, damn.
(as in you should do that)
basically i'm deciding on if i want a badass semi-casual shirt or a professional shirt.
ok, i bought the pink oxford. i was too lazy to double-check my measurements.
only 40 minutes left on the offer ($30 off)!

check these:
-> faded purple solid
-> forest green thin-stripe
-> tangerine striped
-> indigo textured solid
-> the perfect white

they're cool if you're on the polo team, i guess, but the thought of a button-down collar on a tailored shirt which hangs on a $6 wooden hanger makes me cringe a little bit
> depends if he's always buying button-downs or not
(this was regarding collar stays, fyi)
on button-down collars in general: i disagree. unless you wear ties, spread collars are overkill.
bsdlite

unless you're riding your horse to the saloon or shopping at wal-mart, button-down collars are underkill :P
Étrangère

hahaha
i think the button-down collar on the pink oxford is fitting. do note that i absolutely would not wear the shirt with a tie. it is semi-casual.
i would consider these for professional dress for myself, of which i would get a traditional collar with buttoned cuffs, or
maybe a spread collar with french cuffs:
->
the perfect white
->
tangerine striped
->
grey solid
i just don't have any experience with spread collars nor french cuffs. i don't know when it's overkill.
nestor: kindly advise!
i am definitely not a defender of button collars with ties, but fyi, (fashionable) proponents exist.
i see button collars as perfectly acceptable in a professional environment where suits/ties are not worn (i.e. business casual with light slacks).
french cuffs might be a bit too dressy if you go with new metal cufflinks (vs. vintage links or silk links which are a bit less formal).
spread is hit or miss without a tie and might make you end up looking like you're going out instead of working, especially without a jacket.
the problem with the tangerine is going to be pairing it with a tie, unless you have some nice solid ties. other two are of course really easy to match.
> i see button collars as perfectly acceptable in a professional environment where suits/ties are not worn (i.e. business casual with light slacks).
i agree, and thus, the pink oxford in said configuration!
> french cuffs might be a bit too dressy if you go with new metal cufflinks (vs. vintage links or silk links which are a bit less formal).
i'd probably get some purple silk links.
> spread is hit or miss without a tie and might make you end up looking like you're going out instead of working, especially without a jacket.
going out to like... a broadway show?
--
the white shirt would mostly be for interviews. i don't need much formal dress, as academia is my chosen career path.
i think i would go for the configuration i wrote before:
perfect white, traditional collar, french cuff, slim fit, monogram "jlr"
and i'd get some collar stays and some purple silk knot links.
how does that sound, nestor?
going out -> going out to a dressy bar / club / etc.
i think for interviews you should probably have some metal links. not too hard to buy vintage ones for cheap.
ok, so if i wanted one shirt to cover interviews and going out, should i go with the said shirt?
metal links for interviews, silk knots for going out?

waist 31.00 29.00 (tighter)
length 27.00 32.00 (longer)
hips 33.00 32.00 (tighter)
as stated before; perfect white, traditional collar, french cuff, slim fit, monogram "jlr."
would love to see some pics if you have a few mins.
length is good if you plan on wearing it tucked in.

Bozeman shuts down main street once a week in the summer for the Music on Main concert series. Then (and only then) you're allowed to have drinks on the street.
But I've always wondered what the rest of Bozeman can get away with on those evenings...if we can drink on any street, or only allowed to within the specified concert area...
they have marked boundaries and specified hours

i rented a place for my mom and sister. i might stay there sometimes. but i'm probably getting a job in bozeman.
i already made a friend there. :D it's cool to live within four blocks of the two banks i use (wells fargo bank and u.s. bank). i'll enjoy butte while i'm there.

just ordered! the coupon code they sent me said it had already been used, so I emailed them and they sent me another one in like five minutes. pretty awesome.
I got the
pine green plaid with traditional collar and button cuffs, in slim fit, no monogram.
measurements:
height 71
weight 155
neck 15.0
shoulders 16.5
bicep 10.5
wrist 7.0
sleeve 24.5
chest 35.5
waist 32.0
length 26.5
hips 36.5
nice. i'm sure you'll love it.
i've lost a lot of weight since december - i think i'll probably hold off ordering some until late june. i basically need to lock in my weight at what it is at that time, as i need to buy work clothes and that isn't going to be cheap.

i've been perusing the mtm/custom shirts scene a bit now and ran across this gem:
proper cloth
if you use this link to sign up, you get $10 credit (putting the price, for the lowest cloth tier, at $90 shipped, the same as biased cut).
site owns because: 190 different swatches of cloth from which to use; spread/londoner collar options; button customizations; cuff/collar accents; etc.
reviews from men's clothing enthusiasts seem to be largely positive, although mtm shirts typically use the same pattern for all shirts, despite allowing changes in measurement. so if you have oddly-shaped shoulders or some other far-from-average feature, don't expect perfection from these sites.
