Has anyone here heard of Nicolas Sarkozy? He is most likely the next president of France, and is in favor of pro-market reforms. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about him? I am really interested in seeing what happens in France over the next few years, as they are set for a lot of reform (like us but probably in the opposite direction).

I wouldn't call him Thatcherite, but I suppose he would be the French equivalent.

Did you read last week's survey on France in the Economist?

That's what prompted the post. And I agree, in his actual politics he is not that similar to Thatcher, but he may assume the role of bringing a stagnant socialist economy back into competitiveness.

I liked the article on the French universities. (in that survey)
