**Remember when posting any of these examples, just don't use spaces where I have put them in the following examples**
Formatting!
1. < b > bold < / b >
2. < i > italics < / i >
3. < pre > preformatted text goes here! < / pre >
4. < blockquote > turns this into a blocked quote, can be nested < / blockquote >
Linking!
1. you can paste a full url pretty easily, I've worked on it a bit to make sure that links don't break but if you find them and have some regular expression skills maybe you can
improve the code !
http:// www. thinktankforums. com/
2. for one word links: just type the word, a colon and paste the 'http:// ...' link
ttf : http:// www. thinktankforums. com/
3. for links with more than one word: use single quote to begin the linked string, type the words you want to link and finish with a single quote, colon and paste!
' ttf is super ' : http:// www. thinktankforums. com/
4. typing common abbreviated links in regular posts works for subdomains and very common tld's [org, net, com, gov]
thinktankforums .com
penelope. thinktankforums .net

yay! I'm glad this exists now. especially the hyperlinking stuff.
does hyperlinking happen inside of pre tags? it would be neat if it didn't...

:(
why wouldn't it? do you want a <code> function now?

well it would be nice to be able to exempt text from being parsed by the hyperlinking stuff somehow. another message board I post on has a "disable html" checkbox right under the reply textarea. not really a necessity, just a convenience if you want to explain to someone how to hyperlink or something.
I'm not even sure how to begin that one. So a unique flag, but not only for a post but within the string of a post..So before outputting each post, specify using some marker like < code > until < /code >, use an unwieldly glob regexp, and don't link it.
I could see how it would be nice. Like with this thread especially I could do literal links without the spaces. It would also be nice if the output behavior was understood by the users, and a keen understanding of it would let you dance around it's matches. Though it would be cool to have code formatting, most code can be pasted in blockquote already because only a few formatting options (as shown above) actually do anything. There would only be the case of linking really, to exempt from output. In that case they can read this thread ;)
> use an unwieldly glob regexp, and don't link it.
or just do what i did with pre tags except run output() instead of outputbody().
i really want to go through other forums' code and see exactly how they do a few things.
special uses of links!
I'm pretty sure that most people who haven't looked at the code carefully won't know about these so here it goes!
1. regular ftp links
ftp:// www.projectdp. com
2.
sftp links
sftp:// www.projectdp. com
3. http
s links
https:// www.projectdp. com
additionally, all of these work for linking type two and three in the first post here. so you can do named and multiple named links of the types: ftp, sftp, https, and of course http.
this says sticky all over it.
or if you aren't into stickies permalink in sidebar!
i eventually just want a little question mark icon by the reply box, that upon clicking, it would pop up a mini reference guide.
