spotty on beats that hit. lyrically alright, i'm not familliar with any of the mc's. i enjoy it right now, but it doesn't sound like something that i'll remember in a few years. give it a chance at earshot at least.

last track of Today's Empires…:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=sHNkJ8j1zjY
you can fast-forward the first 30 secs or so unless you want to hear a cow getting beaten. don't bother watching the vid either if you don't want to see animals getting abused.
sorry, it was the only video on youtube with the recorded version of a song!
song is good, solo at 3:45 is pretty awesome for a punk song.
and i didn't mind the video, if that is their deal than that is their deal, some of those clips were pretty insane (why was a camera there?!).
asemisldkfj

that's just some vid some dude put the song to. granted the song is about animal rights.
that whole album is more of the same, in a good way.

Die Jugend Marschiert is good too, from the newest album.

that's always a good sign. if you haven't been, listen to/read the lyrics! they're all on the website and they're a lot of what makes it my probably favorite album ever. they manage to sound good, not be really preachy or stupid, and say a lot of intelligent-sounding stuff. I love it.
i do like back to the motor league a lot.
i'm going to check out some of their other albums too - any recommendations?
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
how to clean everything is a huge departure from today's empires.
here's a little background: for how to clean everything (1st album) and less talk, more rock (2nd album), they had the guy who's the lead singer/guitarist for the weakerthans on bass. he sings on a song on how to clean everything (showdown/gep) and a couple of songs on less talk, more rock (anchorless and gifts), all of which are great. he left to go form the weakerthans before today's empires came out so they got a new bassist for that one (he fills a similar role re: the singing on some songs: ordinary people do fucked up things when fucked up things become ordinary, new homes for idle hands, and bullshit politicians, most notably). so their music changed quite a bit.
anyway, how to clean everything is like pop-punk kind of. they were on fat wreck chords and friends with fat mike of nofx, to give you some idea. it still rules.
less talk, more rock is getting more punk I guess. I don't know, I'm bad with genres. it's not as metal or hardcore punk as today's empires, but it's definitely on the way there (see the track rio de san atlanta, manitoba).
they're all so different so I'd definitely say check them all out! I'd go backwards before I listened to their newest stuff, though.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection

roots manuva - dub come save me - no rating yet..but its good good good

yo la tengo - i can hear the heart beating as one - 4.5/5 fucking sweet
others: billy bragg and wilco - mermaid avenue
cadence weapon - afterparty babies (i know ... it seems like just more backpack hiphop...but this one is different)
groove armada - goodbye country

madvillain - madvillainy (this is better than mf doom... but a little jazzy..beware)
matthew sweet - girlfriend (great guitar pop from the early 90s)
