I hate to be obnoxious, and I stand nowhere near the fence (as of yet), but is ttf bsd licensed? I spent the last 30 min reading about various licenses and the GNU GPL sounds pretty nice to me. I'm no dev though. Well, not really.
ttf is bsd-licensed, IIRC. actually it's in bold on the first line of
ttfproject.com :).
the basic gripes with the GPL are that it can inhibit standards from forming because corporate entities are reluctant to use it. also, it takes away the ability of a coder to license a derivative work as they see fit and instead forces the to use GPL. depending on your goals, this might be what you want though, it's just an annoyance to some.
