I hate to be obnoxious, and I stand nowhere near the fence (as of yet), but is ttf bsd licensed? I spent the last 30 min reading about various licenses and the GNU GPL sounds pretty nice to me. I'm no dev though. Well, not really.

ttf is bsd-licensed, IIRC. actually it's in bold on the first line of ttfproject.com :).

the basic gripes with the GPL are that it can inhibit standards from forming because corporate entities are reluctant to use it. also, it takes away the ability of a coder to license a derivative work as they see fit and instead forces the to use GPL. depending on your goals, this might be what you want though, it's just an annoyance to some.

the first post by phoenix in this thread at bsdnexus is pretty great: http://forums.bsdnexus.com/viewtopic.php?id=164

same with his post on the second page.
