Oh, and seeding on oink is generally a tedious business.
a friend of mine would go on irc or newsgroups to download albums that were highly seeded on oink, and then seed them on oink without incurring the download penalty to his ratio. he's at a 12+ ratio right now...

you just gotta leave that shit on all the time. it's tough with a laptop. I've heard that uploading stuff in a lossless format is a good way to get your ratio up.
I'd rather not kill my laptop hard drive with that much activity. Can I give up my oink account? I registered but I didn't know what I was getting myself into really. Or should I just take the time to read it and do it all up? I'll try to take a photo of something adorable for my avatar I suppose.
what activity is going to kill it? seeding is all network activity. the only thing that's gonna be hard drive activity is ripping the CDs and encoding them to FLAC. nothing too intense, I think.
and if you want access to some of the best quality rips, one of the best music selections I've seen, and killer download speeds, then you should take the time :). the only thing worth noting really are the ratio requirements, which you can see by clicking Ratio. if you're going to start any torrents that's another story, but oink has great documentation on it.

I'd say btmusic.org has higher quality rips. Much more restrictive rules at least. FLAC as the lowest allowed quality and so on. I don't get lossy rips from oink unless I *really* need it.

it's tough, phi_. definitely takes longer than a day. I've been on there for a little over five months and my ratio is a little under 0.7.

trick is to download shit based on a much higher leech to seed ratio using a box with a lot of upstream
