i think i'm going to steal back allisfulloflove from dannyp (it's at ap's house right now). stick a monitor and keyboard on it, and steal the wifi card from release. that will be my gateway at my apartment.
so i guess the idea would be to mount my directional 2.4GHz antenna on my roof. then run a 25' LMR-400 cable down inside my apartment to allisfulloflove. with a wifi card and a ethernet card, run pf as a firewall and grab msu internet.
the question is:
1. can i get a good link?
2. can i afford a $45 cable and an antenna tripod?
i guess i'll climb up on my roof and play with the antenna and figure out how good of a link is possible. maybe i'll go wardriving on campus first to see what's available where.
maybe befriend peeps at the sorority and just run a 100m cat5 directly there...
but seriously i didn't know that those antenna cables could go that long. learning something new everyday (hopefully).
why are you sporting a broken avatar?
dp: have you edited his profile recently?
no editing of profiles recently. how much loss in dBi is acceptable in a cable with such girth?
is acceptable? i don't know.
but the loss is "Frequency loss per 100ft at 2400Mhz is 6.65dB."
so that's 1.66 dBi loss for the 25' cable.
i tried building an avatar and uploading but ttf didn't like it i guess.
mind sharing the error you got, if any?
that's the thing, it didn't give me an error. said it worked fine.
can you provide the image you tried?
deleted it already.
i'm going to purchase the 50ft. cable.
last night i did a wardriving session around my house. in a 1.5 block radius around my place, i picked up 97 access points. and i can hit 5 MSU APs 1.5 blocks away with up to 60SNR.
