i'm just starting this m.s. in applied economics program at msu, and here i am reading this page:

http://www.pdx.edu/admissions/grad_postbac.html

i really want to take some literature, poetry, linguistics, classics, and continental philosophy classes. a lot of which my school lacks.

it would be kind of funny if i just ran away to portland before classes started and canceled my loans and assistantship

Well from what I am aware of, if you receive a scholarship, you receive payment at the beginning of the term. What you can do, I believe, is request a check. Instead of it being deposited to your "Uni" account, you can take the money and run.
